Interview with Jean de Just, the French architect in vogue in Brazil

We introduce you today to a talented French architect, whose reputation is well established. He is now signing many projects in Brazil, and Latin Exclusive is proud to count on his talent and to offer his professionalism to its clients. Jean de Just kindly received us in his Carioca flat in Ipanema, decorated with hand-picked design pieces, delicately scattered touches of color, flowers, plants and lots of armchairs, all of which form a daring mix that only good designers have the secret to.

For with him, the foundations are solid!  With a background as a classical architect and interior designer, he can take a project from A to Z, from the conception and definition of the space to the final details of the decoration. He has practiced with great architects in France and has travelled to work with them on various projects. From his restoration work at the Grand Palais and the Garnier Opera House, he has retained the ideal notion of the proportion of spaces and the soul of each place. These notions are essential, according to him, to make a room come alive and vibrate. But while he is passionate about historical monuments, he also loves furniture and the history behind each piece. From Paris to São Paulo, via Rio and Salvador, the architect delivers properties to his clients from all over the world. After arriving in the sunny Rio de Janeiro in 2014, Jean quickly realized that the country had enormous potential for developing his work, having learnt his skills in France, but also being passionate about Brazil.

The French touch seduces the Brazilian public, which finds in him a new breath of fresh air and a strong taste for the right proportions, a respect for symmetry and the very French mix of refined pieces with those found at the antique market... of contemporary and vintage, always very elegant. Hotels, residences, restaurants, boutiques, the projects are numerous and his architecture studio has not stopped growing since he started. For although Jean de Just is French, he loves Brazil and understands it very well. He has travelled the country and is inspired by its crafts, which he collects. Travelling is part of his life, all over the world. When he talks about his travels, Jean confesses that he sometimes falls in love with a collection of objects, becoming the happy buyer of pieces that he will only use a few years later, when they will finally have found a perfect place in one of his going on projects. Now a true collector, his eye takes him to auctions, antique shops and to discover new trends, while continuing to develop his own pieces.

He admits that he enjoys almost every style, and likes to adapt to what a client has in mind. "I listen to their requests and adapt as much as possible. As long as the basics are respected, any project can be transformed into something incredible". For these reasons, he does not like to be boxed in, preferring instead not to repeat his ideas and creations on different projects, evolving constantly. Thus, even if Jean has a real style of his own, his personal touch can be found in each of his creations, but in complete finesse. He has the education to adapt to his clients' demands, but will always know how to guide them towards harmonious choices that will transform the rooms into real living spaces, where one feels good. These are his own words: "to feel good at home and experience the satisfaction of comfort". These are values that he willingly borrows from his mentor Alberto Pinto, for whom he worked for several years in France and to whom he owes a great admiration for all his work. Thus, he plays with colors, textures, styles, patterns and furniture. Driven by his taste for creation, he nourishes himself with his travels, his discoveries and his instinct to anticipate the trends likely to please his public. While his presence at Casa Cor design events is always expected, he recently created a real buzz at the latest Casa Cor in Rio de Janeiro, where his fully decorated winter garden turned the heads of visitors who were dazzled by the mixtures chosen and the beauty of a wall entirely composed of mosaics, representing carioca palm trees.

Plants are indeed one of the trends that Jean De Just is currently betting on. Convinced of the need to be surrounded by green, he notes that customers are increasingly attracted to plants, as it can be a fundamental decorative element in a room. Whether it's an accumulation or a simple bouquet, no touch will be off when it comes to highlighting vegetation. Brazil is a master at this and that's the whole point of this cultural dialogue: to take the best of each place, mix it with other styles and sublimate the whole.

If for some people it is necessary to have the courage of their opinions, for others it is necessary to have the courage of their ambitions and dreams, or at least to know how to seize opportunities and not to shy away from challenges. It is a great challenge that Jean de Just seized 8 years ago, and he has certainly found the perfect recipe to place himself on the market of renowned architects in Brazil. Latin Exclusive, always on the lookout for exceptional properties, is happy to work hand in hand with this architectural studio to offer its clients the guarantee of quality work, led by a highly competent team.
