Arriving in Playa del Carmen is incredible! With its gigantic beach and bustling bars, feet on sand, it is an ideal holiday destination that benefits from excellent sunny climate all year round. What was once a small Mayan fishing village is now world famous for its tropical environment and its beautiful beaches on the Caribbean Sea. It is indeed one of Mexico's most dynamic tourist destinations. Visitors get enchanted by the city's restaurants, luxury shops and the chic and cosmopolitan European spirit, exactly like in La Quinta, the central point of Playa del Carmen. And while we're in an incredible region, the island of Cozumel and the ancient cities of Tulum and Cobá are well worth exploring. A wonderful trip!
Its history goes back to a time long before the Spaniards set foot in Mesoamerica. Playa del Carmen existed as Xaman Há during pre-Colombian times, a small Mayan fishing village. It is believed to be one of the first places the Spaniards caught sight of during their explorations of the Mesoamerican coast, as it had a privileged location opposite the island of Cozumel. Xaman Há was an important port for shipping at the time, its inhabitants were mainly engaged in fishing and agricultural activities.
