Los Cabos has been a maritime landmark since it was discovered in 1537 by Francisco de Ulloa, but only in 1730, were a fort and a Jesuit mission founded here. Thereafter, Los Cabos became a sleepy fishing village, its development and transformation began when Rod Rodriguez, son of a former President of Mexico, decided to build a fishing resort for celebrities. He built the first resort on the peninsula and soon others began building hotels. The government of Mexico soon got involved and in 1974, they constructed a 1000-mile trans peninsular highway and an international airport.
