On the Caribbean Sea, a few hours from Cartagena, lies the pretty little town of Tolú. In Tolú, almost everything revolves around beach activities. They are beautiful, the sea water is crystal clear and the sand shines bright white. The sea has the advantage of being shallow and calm, which allows for water sports such as paddle boarding, kite surfing, fishing, kayaking and scuba diving. From here, it is also possible to visit the Ciénaga de la Caimanera and the Ciénaga de la Leche, where one can take a boat trip and enjoy the biodiversity of the mangroves. The Roca Madre Park and the Toluviejo Caves are other great visits! Tolú is also the gateway to the wonderful Isla Mucura, the pearl of this region in the Caribbean Sea. A paradise!

A brief history about Tolú

A brief history about Tolú

The municipality of Tolú was founded on July 25th, 1535, by the conquerors Alonso de Heredia, Pedro Velazco and Martínez de Sevilla. These men turned this hidden place in the Gulf of Morrosquillo into an important port for agricultural goods trade during colonial times. Later in the XVII century, this region reached its golden age thanks to its recognition as a key location for exporting products both via sea and land, achieving high outputs of sugarcane, other agricultural products, and livestock.
